Upon Visiting the Egyptian Gallery of the British Museum

Upon Visiting the Egyptian Gallery of the British Museum

by Douglas Cavers

I read none of the plaques
And meandered,
A bored tourist,

Amongst the sarcophagi
Bedecked in royal turquoise
And ancient alien glyphs

And yawned at the king
Waiting for eternity
And his native sands
Behind plate glass.
